Tony and Kaylan’s love story started in sweatpants and basketball kicks, but their wedding day turned out to be the complete opposite. In one word, ethereal. The couple calculated and ran through the details of their ethereal wedding, as if she was going into the game of their lives and it absolutely paid off! Enjoy the photos of this beautiful wedding and read the couple’s love story below.

How did you meet and when did you know he/she was “the one”?

We met at the local recreation center where we would go to play basketball. We both love basketball and would go to the rec pretty much every day to practice and play pick up games. Naturally, we began to notice each other and spend more and more time together doing what we love.

I knew he was the one when I decided to leave Texas and go play collegiate basketball on a scholarship at the University of Evansville in Indiana. I was literally moving across the country but he never batted an eye. He supported my decision and stated that he wasn’t going anywhere and he didn’t. My moving away and his unwavering support truly strengthened and solidified our relationship. It made any time we got to spend together that much more fresh, exciting, and special.

Do you have a super romantic proposal story or engagement memory?

Tony proposed while we were on a trip for his mother’s 50th birthday in Puerto Rico! On Easter Sunday 2016, we decided to take a last minute flight to Flamenco beach of Culebra Island because it was our last full day there, we hadn’t really spent time with just the two of us and we heard that it was one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. When we landed, we made friends with another couple who ended up helping Tony execute his plan. While we were on the beach the girl came up to me and asked me to go with her to get some food and when we got back Tony took me by the water, hugged me and got down on one knee asking me to marry him. It was a total shock and what made it even better is that the couple took pictures and videos of the whole thing!

Tell us about your wedding style. When you sat down to really figure out how your dream wedding would look, did you start with one central color, a palette of colors, or a theme that served as your inspiration?

If I had to describe our wedding style I would have to say it was “Natural Elegance.” We love to be outdoors and enjoy beautiful scenery but we also like things to be very clean, polished, and well put together. So we decided to combine that with our main colors being gold and white with a touch of greenery.

What did you enjoy most about the process of planning your wedding?                                        

I really enjoyed wedding planning because it’s truly about celebrating each other and our love. You get to feel very special because everyone is trying to put together your dream day and give you what you (the couple) wants. It’s exciting because as you start crossing things off your list the anticipation begins to build up and you can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

Looking back, was there a really special moment that you remember from your wedding that stands out as the most magical?

—Actually the most magical moment of the night was when the reception was over and we got into our getaway car together as husband and wife. It was our only true time together that day and the first time we got to sit still and really soak in everything that just occurred and the fact that we were married. As soon as we sat down we both let out a sigh of relief and smiled at each other with overwhelming joy and gratitude. The feeling was truly indescribable. Our day turned out exactly as we imagined and we were so happy and so thankful for everyone who helped us pull it off.

Did you have a special song that you danced to as your first dance? How did you choose it?

We danced to a mixture of songs for our first dance but our actual wedding song was “Why I Love You” by Major. The vocals and music played in that song are so pure and beautiful that we knew it was the right song the first time we heard it. Also, to top it off, the lyrics perfectly describe our love for each other.

 Do you have any tips for couples planning their wedding?                               

Focus on your love and leave the little details to the professionals. There is so much that goes into wedding planning that it can get overwhelming and you can get “lost” in it. Remember that you are marrying the love of your life and that is the most important thing. The best thing that we did was hire a wedding planner, Lahoma from Events Unleashed. She helped us stay on track, find and manage all the vendors, and really helped all my ideas come to life. The other thing I recommend is hiring a high quality photographer and videographer that has experience with weddings. The day goes by so fast and there is a lot going on so you need someone who knows exactly what to expect but can also handle any mishaps that may occur so that the highlights of your day are appropriately captured. The day is over before you know it and you really miss a majority of what goes on so you will need to look back at pictures and videos to truly grasp the entirety of your wedding! Svetlana Photography and Wes from New Road Productions did an amazing job of capturing our day and had great personalities to match their professionalism.

What are your day jobs/hobbies?

Tony is an Account Manager at Dell and I am a full-time graduate student studying to become a Physical Therapist. Our hobbies are basically anything that involves being active or competitive. We love sports, our favorite being basketball, being outdoors, and we enjoy water activities.
